How do I activate 2FA security
Setting up 2FA
Setting up 2FA is simple. Login to your account then click on “Profile settings” then click on “2FA Settings”. The screen will flash up the setup interface. If you have a hardware token you can enter its secret key in the space provided (our system does not limit you to just silly QR codes & fixed secrets, we speak the language of security & privacy fluently). Then click on the big button that toggles “Update 2FA settings”. The page should reload and you will get a ping and a message on-screen confirming the update. If you choose to use an app for Android or iPhone or any other TOTP device or software then you can also create a custom secret or enter your own (see information on software setup below)
2FA using Android, iPhone, TOTP software or hardware
To do this firstly login to your account then click on “Profile settings” then click on “2FA Settings”. The screen will flash up the setup interface. At this juncture, do the following:
- Click on New Key to generate a new key (small button at the bottom), the page will reload
- Select “Activate” from the drop down as well as your “Clock drift” preference (see further explanation below)
- Now click on the big button that toggles “Update 2FA settings”, the screen will reload & confirm
- Done. You can now run a test by clicking on “Test OTP” which launches the OTP in your browser to check if the code that is displayed on your OTP device is synchronized with the system
Clock Drift setting
This setting allows a drift on the validity time of the OTP and prevents lockouts if your TOTP device is not accurate. It gives a validity of 4 minutes to the OTP as compared to the standard 30 seconds offered by Google authenticator etc. This is convenient if you do not need espionage class security and merely trying to keep hackers from getting ahead, which is sufficient in most cases however even if you are super cautious we have that covered too
